WHY JOIN JKA KARATE?

JKA Karate has remained essentially unchanged throughout its history, ensuring that each student learns every technique and tradition in its original, most powerful form. As a result, JKA produces some of the strongest and most skillful karate-ka in the world. Here are some key factors that set JKA Karate apart from other traditions:

JKA Karate Has Strong Roots

JKA Karate is a refined form of the Shotokan style, one of the oldest and most traditional types of Okinawan karate. With deep roots in these “original” sources, JKA Karate has developed a long history and great tradition.

JKA Karate Is Scientific and Constantly Evolving

Every technique and movement in JKA Karate is grounded in solid, scientific physical movement theory. This is why we emphasize kihon—the foundational techniques—and their proper form, angle, and balance. This approach results in powerful, solid, and smooth-flowing karate, proven time and again in tournaments. Despite its excellence, JKA Karate is continuously refined and improved.

JKA Bangalore Dojo Instructors Are Trained & Licensed Professionals

All instructors at JKA Bangalore are highly trained, licensed professionals dedicated to preserving the true essence of karate. Their rigorous training ensures that every student receives instruction that adheres to the highest standards of JKA.

JKA Bangalore Maintains a Specialist Instructor Training Program

Unlike other karate groups, JKA Bangalore offers a specialist instructor training program (Shidoin Keiko) for black belt students who demonstrate exceptional skill. This program involves quarterly intense study and practice, culminating in a physical test and written examination conducted by a visiting JKA HQ examiner from Japan. Successful candidates are accepted as professional instructors, ensuring that JKA’s scientific foundations and traditions are upheld in Bangalore.

JKA Karate Has No Weight Classifications or Half-Point System

JKA Karate is not a sport played for points. In JKA kumite, there are no weight classifications or arbitrary point systems. Unlike other karate groups, JKA tournaments are stricter, awarding only ippon (one full point) for downing an opponent or waza-ari (effective technique), which counts for roughly 80% of an ippon. The focus is on mastering oneself and overpowering an opponent with a single blow, regardless of size or weight.

Close Supervision by JKAWF INDIA HQ

The legitimacy of JKA Bangalore is closely monitored by JKAWF INDIA HQ. The Technical Committee, led by Chairman Anil Sinha Sensei, oversees the technical standards, while Somnath Palchowdhury Sensei, Chairman of JKAWF INDIA, visits Bangalore quarterly to mentor instructors. JKA HQ also sends instructors from Japan annually to conduct workshops and various examinations. This strong technical and administrative support system ensures that JKA Bangalore is far better organized and has the staying power that few others can match.

JKA Bangalore Is Devoted to the Practice of Karate

Unlike many other karate organizations, JKA Bangalore was established with a primary focus on the practice of karate as a ‘Way of Life,’ rather than merely holding matches and tournaments. Though it sponsors tournaments, its main purpose is to teach karate as a lifelong discipline.
