OUR CURRICULUM

The Japan Karate Association (JKA) is the world’s largest and most respected Shotokan Karate organization. The JKA follows a structured grading syllabus that defines various proficiency levels in karate, with grading tests based on the quality of techniques demonstrated.

JKA grading levels begin at 10th Kyu and progress through to 1st Kyu (beginner and intermediate levels), followed by Dan grades from 1st Dan up to 10th Dan (black belt). To advance through these levels, students must undergo a grading process, which involves performing a set of prescribed karate techniques before a panel of JKA-accredited examiners. This rigorous process ensures that students meet the high standards required for each grade.

The JKA offers three core qualifications: Instructor (for teaching karate), Judge (for officiating at tournaments), and Examiner (for testing and evaluating Dan grades, instructors, and other qualifications).

At JKA Bangalore, we are committed to the adoption, promotion, event management, and education of JKA Karate. With branches and instructors certified by JKA Headquarters in Tokyo, Japan, the JKA is a globally recognized authority. In Japan, the JKA’s dedication to quality youth development has been acknowledged by the Cabinet Office, with prestigious awards such as the Prime Minister’s Cup and the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports Cup.
