Welcome
OUR BACKGROUND
The Japan Karate Association World Federation India (JKAWF INDIA), effective from March 2, 2021, was initially established as “JKAWF INDIA Kolkata” on January 1, 2015. This organization was formed as an umbrella group, bringing together several Shotokan karate groups in India under a mutual agreement to operate as a non-profit organization. It is governed by the JKA World Federation in Tokyo and strictly adheres to its constitution
JKAWF INDIA was officially accepted into the JKA membership on August 22, 2015, by Masaaki Ueki Shuseki Shihan, in the presence of Takeshi Oishi Shihan, Toshihiro Mori Shihan, and Fujikiyo Omura Shihan in Bangkok, Thailand. The organization received its Certificate of Membership from the Japan Karate Association on October 17, 2015, at JKA Headquarters in Tokyo, becoming a direct branch of the JKA World Federation in India. Somnath Palchowdhury was appointed by the JKA as the Official Representative and Chairman (Kaichou) of JKAWF INDIA.
Since its inception, JKAWF INDIA has been working tirelessly to promote karate-do as taught by the JKA in Japan. This is achieved through various activities, including weekly Instructor’s Classes (Shidoin Keiko), monthly workshops across districts, Parent-Teacher Meetings, Annual Training Camps conducted by Japanese instructors from the JKA, Judges’ Seminars, Annual Tournaments, JKA Kyu (color belts) Rank Promotion Tests by JKA Certified Examiners, JKA Dan (Black Belt Diploma) Tests, and other License Qualification Tests administered by Japanese Examiners from JKA HQ in Japan. Additionally, JKAWF INDIA actively participates in overseas JKA International Training Camps (Gasshuku), International JKA Championships, and offers online training and exams conducted by both JKA Certified Senior Instructors of JKAWF INDIA and Japanese instructors from the JKA.
JKAWF INDIA is recognized by the Karate India Organization (KIO), the national federation for karate in India, which is affiliated with the South Asian Karate-Do Federation, Asian Karate Federation, Commonwealth Karate Federation, and World Karate Federation. In each state, our branches are members of the respective KIO state governing body; for example, in West Bengal, we are a member of the Karate-Do Association of Bengal. JKAWF INDIA is centrally organized and coordinated through its headquarters in Kolkata, with numerous member groups and branch dojos located throughout the country.
